“Pedro” (Puppie) Godwin/Woods

Pedro is a recently adopted 8 year old Chihuahua. His new parents did not know that he was suffering from severe dental disease. He was not eating or drinking very well and his coat looked dull which they thought was normal for him. They brought him to the hospital when he began to sneeze. Pedro had a deep pocket by an upper canine tooth that had caused infection to spread right into his nasal passages. Blood tests revealed that the dental disease was seriously affecting Pedro’s health. Under general anesthesia his diseased teeth were removed and the abscess leading to his nasal cavity was cleaned out and closed surgically. Within a couple of weeks Pedro had gained weight and his coat looked shiny. There was a change in his attitude as he is now a pain-free and happy dog. Untreated dental disease can affect a pet’s health and even lead to euthanasia. A comprehensive oral health assessment under anesthesia can detect dental disease allowing treatment which will improve and lengthen the life of a pet.
